Title
A Novel Process Approach to SEITON: A Case Study
Abstract
Lean production manages to achieve high quality of work by reducing wastes and also it acts as a controlling mechanism to prevent low quality and achieve high quality. 5-S is one of the Lean tools which improve the inconsistency or imbalance (MURA) and quality. It also minimizes the strain (WRI), cost and timely delivery of the product. As a result, it removes all the wastes (MUDA). An efficient 5-S tool plays an essential role in bringing about significant changes in the shop floor. In this paper, we describe about the SEITON, where it emphasizes on identification marking, location and the economic arrangement of materials. It introduces a case study of 5-S through quality improvement of drilled hole in terms of high accuracy of the product through SEITON followed by the development of a program in C++ (whose algorithm is given in appendix) such that the program will automatically select the number and size of drills for the operation with respect to the accuracy. This proposed system improves an organization's efficiency and effectiveness. Empirical studies based on such implementation are discussed.
