Design Of Ultra Low Power Stream Data Receiver Based On Uhf Passive Rfid Tag System
Abstract
Passive RFID technology has been widely applied, but mainly for an automatic identification of objects like in logistics applications. In this paper, as a novel approach the passive RFID system is applied to stream data transmission, where the RFID reader sends stream data and tags receive them. The extremely low power consumption of the passive tag system relieves a limited battery lifetime problem at many wireless communication methods. For concept verification of our proposal, we extended the existing ISO18000-6 Type C UHF RFID protocol, and we applied our extension to a headphone system. Our performance evaluation shows that the additional 3.5% in hardware complexity and 3.8% in power consumption over the conventional RFID tag is sufficient for our goal, and our design satisfies the protocol performance requirement for a voice transmission at 1.9 meter working distance and 500 mW EIRP from the audio stream sender.
