Title
Standardizing Ip Network Topology Discovery Through Mib Development
Abstract
To integrate topology discovery algorithms with other well known network monitoring and management solutions like HP Open View and IBM Tivoli a management Information base should be developed which could provide the network topology information in a standard format. Most of the existing network monitoring and management application use SNMP get and SNMP walk requests to get information from remote machines. Keeping this thing in mind we have proposed an SNW MIB based architecture for our topology discovery algorithms "Constella" so that with out changing any code of the existing monitoring and management application Constella can be easily integrated with existing monitoring and management applications. Further more Constella was originally developed in java and the AEB programming is widely done in C language so we also had to propose some loosely coupled architecture which can enable communication of C and java. We studied different approaches to propose the best approach for java to c communication. According to the results we proposed XML-RPC c client which was part of the SNMP agent and XML-RPC server a Java server which accessed the data from the constella java modules will be the best model.
