•We developed a composite discrete event system dynamics simulation model.•The simulation software Simul8 and VENSIM were joined in a novel way to form model.•We model the transmission and treatment of Chlamydia and treatment of other STIs.•Operational decisions at the clinic affect Chlamydia prevalence in the community.•The model was developed in collaboration with St. Mary’s Hospital, Portsmouth, UK. |
