This paper describes solutions for distributed software project management, focusing on tools and techniques for effective project communication. Microsoft's Internet collaboration tools are used for software development and to monitor and control project progress. Student programmers and supervisors at different physical locations collaborated to produce add-on tools for the Microsoft Office Server Extensions. The modes and mechanisms of a conceptual framework for Internet-based collaboration are presented. This framework is instantiated using Microsoft Office 2000, NetMeeting, MSN Messenger and the Workgroup Web Site. Experience with the collaboration framework is evaluated, and enhancements targeted to support software development are proposed. |
