In this paper, we present both an architecture with a wireless TCP server and a wireless TCP scheme called Freeze-Snoop TCP/SACK. Freeze-Snoop TCP/SACK is a modified TCP scheme for wireless network environments to improve performance of TCP under retransmission mode. When the WTCP server enters retransmission mode, it freezes retransmission timer of sender side not to drop the congestion window at sender side. It yields a significant performance improvement in wireless networks with lossy links. For performance evaluation, we calculate the throughput benefit by using freezing instead of slow start when timeout of sender side is happened by packet loss at wireless link. For simulations, we implemented cdma2000 network with the WTCP server using the NS-simulator. |
