Solid modelling is a branch of geometric modelling that emphasizes the general applicability of models, and insists on creating only "complete" representations of physical objects. It plays a crucial role in Computer Aided Design (CAD/CAM) systems. This paper describes a solid modelling system based on polyhedron approach, which includes: 2(1/2)D modelling, sectioning, and hidden-line elimination. In addition, a convenient and flexible menu manipulation is developed to control the execution of the modelling programmes. The main idea is to approximate nonplane surface by a series of planes. Any problem of 3D object modelling is then reduced to a question of polyhedron handling. |
