Study on the Spatio-Temporal Changes of Ecosystem Service Value in the Northern Slope of Tianshan Mountains
Abstract
MBS (mountain-basin system) is the basic pattern of natural heterogeneity and regionalization in arid area of northwestern China, and its big extent, multi-layer and regular complex of terrestrial ecosystems in Northern Tianshan Mountains, Xinjiang, China, is the basin and frame to form this kind of pattern, therein eco-environmental worsening is closely related with the changing of ecosystems service value caused by irrational human activities. Among the counties in the Northern Slope of Tianshan Mountains, the ecosystems service value of Manas County had decreased most heavily which had made its eco-environment worsening. So this paper took it as an example to analyze the spatio-temporal trends of ecosystem service value along its profile of landscape heterogeneity from 1988 to 2003, and based on the data of RS (Remote Sense) and LUCC (Land Use/Cover Change). According to the world's ecosystem services value evaluation by Costanza et al (1997) and table of 'Chinese ecosystem services value unit area of different ecosystem types' by Xie et al (2003), we got the amendment list of ecosystem service unit area of different ecosystem types in MBS by multiple methods. And the spatio-temporal changes of ecosystem service value in MBS were studied using this amended table and data of RS and LUCC, taking the Manas County as an example. The results showed that the total value of ecosystem services of Manas County was 54.164×10 8 yuan RMB in 1988, 49.760×10 8 yuan in 1997 and 49.627×10 8 yuan in 2003. The total decreased quantity was 4.537×10 8 yuan from 1988 to 2003, with the change rate of 8.4%. Along the north slope of Tianshan Mountain, from south to north, the landscape changes regularly from Tianshan Mountain to piedmont alluvial fan, old oasis, marginal zone, new oasis, and Zhungarian desert. At the same time, the ecosystem services of 13 villages and towns of Manas County, in the order of landscape heterogeneity, were estimated. Correspondingly the Spatial trend and its mechanism about the dynamic change of ecosystem service value along the profile of landscape heterogeneity of the MBS were discussed, and furthermore the related sustainable development countermeasures of MBS were put forward.
