Effectiveness and Applicability of Internet-Based Training in the Corporation - Case of Egypt
Abstract
Learning is the most indispensable activity in thecurrent knowledge-based economy where firms, in orderto compete and survive, must be constantly alert, capableof adapting to fast change, constantly learn, evolve, andtransform themselves rapidly. In that respect, the use ofinnovative information and communication technology isperceived to play a key role in the development of newlearning platforms and mechanisms. One of the emergingsolutions is electronic training "eTraining", which is agrowing trend and is expected to become crucial inmeeting newly introduced challenges and in catering forchanging and diversified market needs. The globalconnectivity of the Internet and the availability ofinnovative information and communication technologyare factors that have contributed in catalyzing the newInternet-based learning paradigm offering greatopportunities for organizations to educate and train theirmanagement and staff. However, Internet-based trainingposes several considerable challenges for variousorganizations especially those operating in developingcountriesWithin the context of transferring and usinginformation and communication technology intodeveloping countries, this paper demonstrates theoutcome of a research aiming at investigating theeffectiveness and applicability of Internet-based trainingin providing training for organizations in Egypt. Thefocus of the research was mainly soliciting the opinionsof three different groups of stakeholders; humanresources or training managers responsible for settingtraining policies; instructors responsible for facilitatingcourses and preparing material; and traineesundertaking the training.
