Title
A Parallel Approach to OSI Connection-Oriented Protocols
Abstract
This paper describes our work in the parallelization of ISO connection-oriented protocols. Our attention focuses on (though is not restricted to) the upper layers. Our scheme performs parallelization on a per-packet basis using widely available, general purpose, shared memory multiprocessors. Our parallel implementation of the ISO stack includes the transport, session, presentation, and application (ASCE and ROSE) layers. The implementation has been tested on a four-processor rise machine and shows that parallelism can provide significant performance advantages in protocol processing.
