In this paper we present and analyze a multi--level voting algorithm for preventing inconsistenciesamong replicated data in a distributed computer system. The algorithmis a layered combination of the well known write--all/read--one and majority consensusapproaches. It avoids the disadvantages of the conventional flat voting strategies in termsof message cost and availability, particularly in an environment with a large number ofreplicas which are supposed to be mostly read and only... |
