Subcontractor Selection and Project Planning are two essential decision stages in the construction industry. Bidding leads to the selection of subcontractors. At the next stage, project planners communicate and coordinate with selected subcontractors to plan the project. These processes generally provide the initial overall project plan and schedule for a building project, and conventional methods lack flexibility and integration. In this study, we propose a new decision making framework and present an integrated decision support system (DSS) to facilitate concurrent decision making in these interrelated processes. An assessment of the system by project managers at the case study company indicates that the system is capable of greatly improving the bidding, subcontractor selection and project planning processes in a holistic (integrated) framework. The system can be applied generally in the construction industry. |
