Title
Spiral-based data dissemination in sensor networks
Abstract
Data dissemination is a key problem that bottlenecks the wideapplication of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). In this paper, anovel data dissemination scheme - Logarithmic Spiral DataDissemination (LSDD) - is proposed. In LSDD, data advertisementsare disseminated following a spiral-like path, which involve only asmall fraction of nodes in a sensor network. By exploiting nicefeatures of spiral, this scheme scales well for large sensornetworks while prolonging the network lifetime. In numericalanalysis and simulations, we show the distinct merits of LSDD asfollows: lower dissemination cost (O√n) compared to that offlooding-based schemes (O√n), controllable topology by spiralparameters, excellent scalability, and good fault tolerance. Weevaluate the extra delay caused by LSDD as a trade-off for itsadvantages, which is shown to be within a tolerable range.
