Title
Synchronizing Multimedia Flows in Active-High-Speed Networks
Abstract
The main requirement of multimedia streams transferis to guarantee the Quality of Service contracted between the user and the network. We will be particularlyinterested, in this paper, by the synchronization constraints between different data streams flowing througha high-speed network. Our approach aims to regulatethe streams progress reducing the gap observed betweenthese streams and assuming that intermediate nodes inthe network are capable of performing appropriate procedures that can be pre-defined by the user and thenetwork manager. This intelligence will allow the network nodes to manage the data streams, unlike passivecarriers, by accelerating data units arriving after criticaldelays. We particularly address the case of active-ATMtechnologies and define for this purpose the active-ATMarchitecture that is needed for multimedia flows synchronization.
