For certain metabolic routes of living organism oscillations in the concentration of the reactant substances appear. During the glycolysis, when the glucose is broken to obtain energy, oscillations can be seen in many steps of the process. These oscillations are damped down, in general, due to the feedback that keeps stable the cellular mechanism. However, certain values of the flux of glucose input keep the oscillations of the metabolic system. In this paper, the influence of a periodic modulation added to the influx of glucose inside the cell in a kinetic model which simulates the glycolysis is analyzed. Simulations of the perturbed glycolytic model exhibit periodic and quasiperiodic behaviors depending on the amplitude and the frequency of the perturbation. The next-maximum maps obtained distinguish between periodic behavior and quasiperiodic one. |
