Title
Adaptive QoS Admission Control for IEEE 802.11e Network
Abstract
With the increasing popularity of multimedia applications, quality of services (QoS) support in wireless communication networks has become important. Along with the enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA) proposed in IEEE 802.e MAC protocol, admission control is a very important component for provision of guaranteed QoS parameters in wireless local area networks (WLANs). Based on the characteristics of real-time application, this study proposes a new adaptive QoS admission control in which quality access point (QAP) dynamically adjusts the QoS level of existing flows so as to provide new data flows acceptable QoS when sufficient resources are not available. The analysis shows that this enhancement admits significantly more voice/video flows into the WLANs than existing admission control mechanism.
