Title
Advanced Institute for Computational Science (AICS): Japanese National High-Performance Computing Research Institute and its 10-petaflops supercomputer "K"
Abstract
Advanced Institute for Computational Science (AICS) was created in July 2010 at RIKEN under the supervision of Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) in order to establish the national center of excellence (COE) for high-performance computing and to operate the 10 petaflops class supercomputer called "K", manufactured by Fujitsu, Ltd. This paper presents AICS in the context of the national high-performance computing infrastructure of Japan. Furthermore, some notable simulation research using the K computer will be briefly discussed.
