Title
A learning object transmission model based on SOAP
Abstract
Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) [1] is a light weight communication protocol based on Hyper Text Transport Protocol (HTTP) [2] and Extensible Markup Language (XML) [3]. It gives us a convenient way to transport and exchange information among application systems on Internet. Learning Object (LO) is the basic unit of learning resource. The service quality of LO is very important to E-Learning. To get high-quality of learning resource service in E-Learning, we need to use an effective way to exchange, store and reuse, especially transport LO, so that we can provide high-quality service for teachers, students and other users of E-Learning systems. The authors of this paper put forward a learning object transmission protocol (LOTM) based on SOAP. LOTM employs LO metadata standards and SOAP technology to standardize LO, so that it can be exchanged and reused conveniently. In addition, LO applies SOAP to provide an effective way for LO transporting and exchanging. This paper presents the structure of LOTM and introduces an application system of it.
