Interconnected intelligent devices (things) are all the rage in technology circles. As the price and availability of microprocessors increase, they are showing up in consumer products ranging from thermostats to refrigerators. The convergence of ubiquitous processing and networking is often referred to as the Internet of Things (IoT). The development of ubiquitous networked devices, particularly in the home and in and around humans, will create new challenges for privacy as well as concerns about the use and storage of information. The author looks at some of these applications for the IoT in consumer as well as industrial and commercial applications and then examine the implications for this technology for memory and digital storage. |
