In this second part of the two-part article on spectrum analyzer evolution, future advances in spectrum analysis have been addressed, specifically the advances in real-time spectrum analysis. The proposed extension of real-time spectrum analyzers with a Filterbank architecture has been developed as a generalization of the classical overlapped windowed-FFT concept. This leads to further improvements in performance and flexibility, in terms of frequency and time resolution and trigger response time. Overlapped processing at full analysis bandwidth is realized at a favorable computation and implementation cost. |
