A composite indicator for assessing habitat quality of riparian forests derived from Earth observation data.
Abstract
•Suitable EO-based indicators to describe riparian forest quality were identified.•Different EO data sources and methods were integrated to derive these indicators.•The indicators were combined into a composite indicator – the RFI_S.•The RFI_S was tested for robustness and compared with a conservation status map.•The RFI_S facilitates the detection of ‘hot-spot’-areas in terms of habitat quality.
