Recently, surveillance systems for public safety have become more intelligent through context awareness. Basically, traditional surveillance systems require power and networking infrastructure to operate the system and to transmit recorded data. These requirements increase the cost of system installation and maintenance. This paper proposes a wireless video sensor network platform for public safety. The proposed platform includes a high-resolution surveillance system, wireless networking platform, and smart functions. Even though the platform captures high-resolution images and transmits them via high speed wireless networks, such as Wi-Fi Mesh (IEEE 802.11s), the system and the network are energy efficient by decomposing the system and the network into two systems: low-power and high-performance. The proposed system and platform can be used for wireless back born networks and for infrastructure of wireless sensor networks. This paper also deals with applications of the proposed system and platform. |
