Title
How to transfer flows efficiently via the Internet?
Abstract
In this paper we present a performance evaluation study of different transport mechanisms carried out in a testbed environment to reveal their efficiency regarding the transfer of different flows. The current versions of the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) are compared to the Digital Fountain based Communication Protocol (DFCP), which is our newly developed transport protocol where congestion control is not applied, but Raptor code based erasure coding scheme is used to recover lost packets. Our results demonstrate that both short-lived and long-lived flows can be transferred more efficiently by DFCP than by TCPs in various network conditions.
