Title
Talking about Medical Errors: The Void in Existing Controlled Terminologies.
Abstract
The discussion of medical errors has been a topic of much debate ever since the Institute of Medicine report in 1999. No standard terminology currently exists to assist in carrying out this discussion. The study described here sought to investigate the content coverage by UMLS Metathesaurus sources of commonly used terms relating to medical errors. Few commonly used terms from the literature or users can be found in any of the source terminologies.
