Title
Packet Appending for BICM-ID
Abstract
This paper introduces a new transmission technique, based on Bit-Interleaved Coded Modulation with Iterative Decoding (BICM-ID). It is designed for multicast communications (e.g., via Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs)) and consists in appending some auxiliary information to a conventional packet of Gray-labeled signals. As a result, an appendix-aware receiver can benefit from iterative decoding. At the same time, a legacy receiver can acquire the legacy packet. The proposed system is evaluated in terms of bit error rate and spectral efficiency. Both tight analytical Error-Free Feedback (EF) bound, and relevant EXtrinsic Information Transfer (EXIT) chart are provided to prove the accuracy of simulation results.
