Abstract
The benefits of integrating distributed file systems with mass storage systems are presented. Key integration issues are discussed. Examples of efforts to integrate the Network File System (NFS) and the Andrew File System (AFS) with a number of mass storage systems are presented. Future research and development issues are discussed
