Flicker is one of the artificial distortions of MPEG-2 coded video caused by the display's gamma characteristics and depends on the picture texture. In order to improve the picture quality, we have developed a technique of reducing the flicker by display gamma simulations in the decoded pictures. The effectiveness was confirmed by experiments. The process is less complex, and the implementation of this technique in digital TV receivers is expected to improve the coded picture quality. |
