Title
A single chip 200 MHz digital correlation system for laser spectroscopy with 512 correlation channels
Abstract
Photon correlation has many applications in different scientific and technological areas. Correlation functions are calculated with dedicated circuitry implementing the required real time algorithms. ASICs are mandatory to achieve high performance with respect to resolution and dynamic range. This paper presents the design and the standard cell implementation of a single chip correlator with 5 ns timing resolution. Alternatives like FPGA-based designs are discussed and the limitations this standard approach has for the present application are outlined
