Title
Combined matched filter and polynomial-based interpolator for symbol synchronization in digital receivers
Abstract
In digital receivers where the sampling is not synchronized to the received data, the symbol synchronization is usually done using interpolation. From the implementation point of view, the polynomial-based interpolation is preferred because it can be efficiently implemented using the Farrow structure. This paper shows how the receiver complexity can be reduced by combining the matched filter and the polynomial-based interpolator. An algorithm is described for optimizing the combined matched filter/interpolator system. It is shown, through the simulations, that there is only a negligible increase in the mean-square error at the output of the combined matched filter/interpolator compared to the case where separate filters are used
