In this paper we propose CPU load-scalable video decoder algorithms using several DCT manipulations such as low pass filtering and resolution conversion in the DCT domain, and their application to a multichannel multicast system. In the experiment, it is shown that the graceful and effective decoder scalability can be realized in terms of quality and decoding complexity without sacrificing decoding frame rate by selecting appropriate decoding algorithms. It is also shown that simultaneous decoding of tens of channels in an ordinary PC can be realized by applying scalable video decoding algorithms |
