Title
Social Q&A vs. library virtual reference: user choices and comparisons
Abstract
In recent years, there has been an increased use of Social Q&A (SQA). At the same time, there has been a reported decline of library virtual reference (VR). Most current research touches on the phenomenon from the perspective of libraries or library users. In this study, a survey of SQA users was conducted to understand SQA uses and experiences, and user comparisons of SQA and VR. The results help shed light on SQA user behavior, reasons for participating in SQA, important factors in using online services to seek answers, and service awareness and comparison of SQA and VR. The results also offer implications for enhancing library VR.
