In this study a lighting control system which is configured as a wireless sensor network is presented. The battery powered switches and relay unit are the basic components of the system. Conventionally, the communication between switches and the relay unit is implemented in a wired fashion. In this study, a wireless network has been established based on the IEEE 802.15.4 personal area network standard. The relay unit and switches are configured as the coordinator and end devices in the wireless network, respectively. The experimental results show that the battery powered switches are able to provide service for more than 5 years with a relatively small capacity battery. |
