Title
Intercomparison Of Sea Surface Temperature Measurements From Aatsr With Data From Other Satellite Sensors Including Avhrr, Modis And Tmi
Abstract
A number of comparisons have been made between global SST fields from the Advanced Along Track Scanning Radiometer on ESA's Envisat satellite and similar SST fields from other satellite sensors and also with climatologically fields. The results show broad agreement with data from single view-sensors such as AVHRR and MODIS with regional variations, some of which are attributable to the presence of heavy aerosol contamination such as Saharan dust. In these circumstances, it is suggested that the two-angle viewing geometry of AATSR provides good atmospheric corrections in the presence of aerosol contamination. Comparisons with climatological data will also be discussed, particularly with reference to the Eastern Tropical Pacific.
