We present a video coder based on the displacement estimation technique presented in Carpentieri and Storer (Proc. IEEE82(6), 1994, 940–947). The performances of the displacement estimation algorithm and the coder are experimentally analyzed. The split-merge displacement estimation technique exploits the temporal correlation between frames, preserving the spatial correlation between the parts of the frame itself. It leads to an efficient coding strategy. |
