Title
A stakeholder analysis of barriers to enterprise system adoption: the case of a transition economy
Abstract
This paper examines barriers to the successful implementation of enterprise systems (ES) in a transition economy setting, i.e. an economy in transition from a communist style central planning to a free market system. Drawing from the experience of 184 Polish ES practitioners, barriers are identified, categorized, and subjected to stakeholder analysis. The findings are then examined in relation to issues reported by prior research conducted in developed countries. The main findings indicate clearly that the most critical barriers ES adopters experience in transition economies are connected with people and also emphasize the need to incorporate multiple stakeholder perspectives, both internal and external, in order to gain full insight into ES adoption. The paper ends with conclusions and recommendations for researchers and practitioners.
