Title
The fine line between 'brave' and 'reckless': Amygdala reactivity and regulation predict recognition of risk.
Abstract
•We probed the basis for high sensation-seekers' reduced threat responses.•Among skydivers, some showed fear responses while others did not.•Neural variables were highly predictive of physiological and psychological responses.•Non-responders showed dysregulation of the prefrontal-limbic circuit.•This dysregulation links to heightened thresholds for ambiguous threat perception.
