The Internet of Cores (IoC) is a new conceptual phenomenon for provisioning on-demand elastic computing and storage resources to people and things anywhere, anytime, from any interactive connected device on a global scale. It facilitates the seamless integration of every computing and storage entity around the globe, including cloud datacenters, cloudlets (public desktops), corporate/individual computers and smartphones, and car-mounted computers, all referred to as cores. The IoC will support and enrich cyber-physical systems (CPS) and the Internet of Things (IoT) by enabling globally connected societies, and has the potential to play a crucial role in realizing their goals. In this article, the authors highlight motivations for the IoC, present a few use cases, and discuss how the IoC has benefits for normal everyday life as well as disastrous situations. |
