Title
Observing System Simulations for Small Satellite Formations Estimating Bidirectional Reflectance
Abstract
•Bi-directional reflectance is a function of illumination and viewing geometry.•Current spaceborne and airborne instruments provide sparse sampling of BRDF.•Small satellites in formation flight can complement current sampling gaps.•We describe an OSSE to evaluate the proposed concept and select a design.•A 6-satellite formation gives lower errors than monoliths as calculated by the OSSE.
