Using educational technology to create effective learning societies in 21st century
Abstract
This study discusses required cognitive skills in 21st century education and potential use of web 2.0 technologies to address the requirements of learning societies in 21 <sup xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">st</sup> century. Providing a literature review, in the first part, the nature of 21st century learning environment and new cognitive skills to fulfill these requirements are discussed. More over, a review of literature of activities to develop these cognitive skills for 21st century education is provided. In the second part, web 2.0 technologies' potentials to address the development of cognitive skills that are determined are analyzed and illustrated with examples. According to the analysis and discussions, the web 2.0 technologies are suitable to fulfill most of the emerging demands of learning communities in 21century life. This article would be interesting for the readers who would like to learn about the demands of new learning communities in 21st century and cognitive skills required fulfilling these demands. Moreover, the article may be interesting for understanding the activities and suggested web 2.0 technologies to develop cognitive skills for 21st century education.
