Title
Web Service Composition Automation Based on Term Rewriting System.
Abstract
Automatic Web Service Composition (WSC) is one of emerging problems attracting much attention from research community due to its usefulness when solving business problems in various application domains. However, this problem also poses a challenging issue due to its theoretical complexity, especially as the number of web services always dynamically increases in practice. This is even worse when one considers a composition solution that both satisfies both hard constraints and Quality of Services (QoS -- or soft constraints) since these two kinds of constraints are based on different natures, thus usually represented in different logic forms. This paper discusses an approach based on Term Rewriting System (TRS) to tackle those problems. In one hand, TRS approach represents both hard and soft constraints of web service as rules. Thus, when a new web service is introduced, one only needs to develop a corresponding rule whereas the system implementation remains intact. In other form, TRS presents a common representation for both hard and soft constraints, allowing two kinds of constraints can be verified in a unified manner. Thus, this approach improves the quality of composition solutions significantly, as illustrated in our experimental results.
