Title
A mixed-mode management system for grid scale energy storage units
Abstract
Grid scale storage offers valuable benefits for economic and reliable operation of the grid. To justify expensive capital cost of this new technology, it is desirable to increase the revenue stream for storage providers by stacking multiple applications on a single unit. In this paper, we present a mixed-mode management system for grid scale storage which can forecast day-ahead market prices, schedule the storage for participation in energy and frequency regulation markets, and provide voltage regulation service to the grid in real-time. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method in scheduling and operation of grid scale storage for multiple applications.
