Latent fingerprints are of decisive influence whenit comes to identifying suspects, as these are usuallyencountered at crime scenes. Also, these serve as acompelling evidence in a court of law. Some of theformidable challenges with latent fingerprints are deficientridge information and poor ridge clarity due to backgroundnoise and non-linear distortions. An effective fingerprintenhancement scheme is suggested to meliorate the clarityand continuity of ridges and valleys in a latent fingerprintimage. The proposed method deals with both local (minutiaor singular points, ridge termination, bifurcation, brokenridges, short ridges, core and delta) and global features(ridge orientation and ridge frequency), while retaining thetrue ridge-valley structures and removing noise at the sametime. The proposed design establishes scalability, accessibility and flexibility. |
