The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is sponsoring research on the development of Pharmacokinetic Models to support the Agency's Exposure and Risk Assessment processes. A prototype model, formulated for the chemical hexachlorobenzene (HCB), has been developed to describe this chemical's absorption, distribution, and elimination in humans and animal species. These processes are described by systems of simultaneous coupled first order differential equations. The model provided a useful tool to estimate the total cumulative dose and concentrations of HCB in offspring via the lactational transfer of HCB from the mother. |
