Challenges of sustainability require flexible and innovative approaches to manage transportation systems. On-demand transit transportation systems that provide an exclusive, on demand and flexible transportation service are becoming an important part of public transportation system. In this paper, we focus on Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system. We propose a new decentralized approach for managing vehicles in PRT system. Our approach considers the PRT as a multi-agent system where various autonomous agents represent various elements of the system. We also propose a decentralized managing algorithm for the different PRT vehicles that allows to express interest of the vehicles for various transportation requests. Using the mechanism of our algorithm, we were able to manage efficiently the different actors in our system. The results of the multi-agent modeling approach have been presented and validated in a set of computational experiments. |
