Title
Management of OSGi Device Using PUCC Protocols and Metadata
Abstract
With the widespread use of the broadband Internet at home and the developing of IoT devices such as home appliances, various sensors and wearable devices, home networking technology has received more attention for realizing smart home applications. However, current home network standards are not unified, and many incompatible standards have been developed for each type of home device. To resolve that issue, a home gateway is widely used for interconnecting with various home devices, which comply with different home network standards. OSGi is the standard for home gateway developed by OSGi Alliance. Since its flexibility for making functional addition and modification to a home gateway, OSGi is able to enable a home gateway to interconnect with various home devices. On the other hand, in an environment where many sensors, persons and different kinds of devices exist, move, and communicate with one another, P2P/ overlay network is one of the most attractive and suitable networking technologies for communications between them, since it effectively supports one-to-one communication over heterogeneous networks, and the distributed search mechanisms needed to discover, control and manage enormous devices on home networks. PUCC technology is one of such technologies. To realize distributed cooperation between home devices including OSGi gateway, we design the PUCC specification for management of OSGi devices, and implements its prototype for verifying its feasibility.
