Title
Configurations of Micro EV Quick-Charging System with EDLC Storage
Abstract
Recently, the electric double-layer capacitor (EDLC) has received much attention as a rechargeable battery. This paper focuses on the application of EDLC for micro electric vehicles (μEVs). μEVs have small power consumption. Thus, EDLC is applicable to μEVs even if the electric capacity is small. However, frequent and quick charging is required. To solve the problem, this paper presents two types of quick-charging system: 1) use of a commercial power source with large capacity, and 2) combination of one or two EDLC storage units and a low-cost power source with limited capacity. These models of quick-charging systems were evaluated by using queuing theory. The theoretical results were confirmed by GPSS simulation. The evaluation shows that a quick-charging system with two EDLC storage units is the best solution. Even if the electric power source line has limited capacity, the proposed system with two EDLC storage units results in short waiting time.
