Switching tasks and being ready for the next appointment is a daily routine in todays office work. In this paper we report an experiment \"in the wild\" with Ambient Timer, an ambient light display designed to continuously and unobtrusively remind users of an upcoming appointment in the periphery of their attention. As a pilot study we did a participatory design study and used the resulting pattern in the evaluation. Our results suggest that Ambient Timer is well suited to support users in being on time for their appointments as well as wrapping up their current task in a sensible manner before having to get up. Users feel less distracted and more in the flow when using Ambient Timer than when using their regular state of the art reminding techniques. |
