The Swarm concept builds on the belief of a vastly distributed platform of collaborating components potentially connecting trillions of sensory and actuating devices worldwide integrated into a single platform abstraction. To do so, interoperability and scalability are major challenges. This paper examines how semantic computing may help to alleviate some of these challenges, and proposes the addition of a semantic broker service to the Swarm. A proof-of-concept example is provided to illustrate function and effectiveness.
