Title
Development and evaluation of an exergaming application for improving seniors' well-being.
Abstract
Existing sensor technology allows precise recording of movements and real-time analysis of data. We have developed an application that monitors the body posture and balance of seniors during exercise games (exergames) using a low cost gaming device. The application allows for generating custom exercises and provides feedback to the user either in the timeframe of a single game or during longer periods of training. The aim of the system developed is to improve the well-being of seniors, especially in terms of body balance. The application was used in a pilot study by a group of 10 seniors during a period of 5 days at their home and was evaluated by means of both a questionnaire and an interview session examining aspects such as enjoyment, motivation and difficulty. Participants rated the experience of using the application with high enjoyment and expressed experiencing improved balance and wish to play exergames again in the future.
