Sensor networks support the collection and transmission of large volume of data from different deployed environments. Source nodes send captured data to the base station (BS) through intermediate nodes. Data integrity is an important security challenge in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). One of the main requirements in WSN is the integrity of the received data at BS. We explore the problem of efficient and secure transmission of watermarked data in both one-to-one and aggregation streaming sensor environments. We also detect the malicious modifications in the original data. In this work, we propose a method to verify the integrity of the sensor data, which is based on a zero watermarking scheme. In watermarking, each sensor node embeds a unique watermark to sensor data and BS can verify the data integrity. We evaluate the computational time overhead as well as the energy utilization of proposed watermarking scheme with existing scheme in WSN. Experimental results and performance analysis shows that our scheme is light-weight, achieves better computational performance and efficient in energy utilization. In addition, security analysis shows that our scheme is robust against different types of data integrity attacks such as data insertion, data modification, and data deletion. |
